The customer, a manufacturing company specialized in the production of high-precision industrial components, operates in the automotive sector, where quality is essential. The company has an automated production line and requires reliable systems for visual quality control.
The customer expressed the need to automate the visual quality control process in order to detect defects like breaks and cracks, lack of material, surface peeling, porosity, and other non-compliances. Manual inspection was time-consuming, subject to human error, and it did not guarantee defect traceability. The customer wanted a scalable solution, to be implemented in its production line, for real-time detection of even the smallest defects.
We developed a fully automated quality control cell, equipped with the following:
2 anthropomorphic robots to handle pieces so as to cover any angle
High-resolution industrial cameras
Optimized lighting to highlight micro-defects
AI-powered vision system, trained on a customer-supplied dataset, to detect the most common types of defects
Personalized user interface, with automatic reporting and image archiving system for non-compliant parts
The solution has been fully integrated with the customer's MES system and allows for complete product traceability.
